The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.
Present were Mary Dreier, Diana Jensen, Barb Woodley, Mitch Brown and library director Kara Rice. Absent was Robb Keizer.
The minutes of November 14, 2018 were read and corrected. Dreier moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Brown seconded. All aye.
Rice reported that the library Foundation received $4,500 in donations this year. The Foundation met and approved $3,800 to expand the library materials. They also approved $1,000 toward the summer reading program, chairs to be recovered, and two stand up desks for library staff.
Rice reminded the board the library would be closed at noon Christmas Eve and all of Christmas Day. On New Year's Eve day they will close at 4:00 p.m.
Budget FYE2019: Rice presented the proposed library budget for next fiscal year to be presented to the City Council. The board reviewed the spreadsheet and after discussion and clarification, Dreier moved to approve the budget as presented. Brown seconded. All aye.
Library Board continuing education: The board members were to read and study Chapter 15 of the Iowa Library Handbook, Advocating for the Library.
Bills were presented through December 12, 2018 in the amount of $4,759.60. The board reviewed the list. Rice explained some of the larger bills. After brief discussion, Dreier moved to accept the bills as presented. Brown seconded. All aye.
Rice said she had been looking at options for a library pet. The board members discussed pros and cons. Rice will do some research and talk to other libraries.
There being no further business, Dreier moved to adjourn. Brown seconded. All aye. The next meeting will be January 9, 2019.
