The Arnolds Park Library Board met Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in the Arnolds Park Library.
Members present were Diana Jensen, Robb Keizer, Barb Woodley, and Library Director, Kara Rice. Absent were Joyce Burgeson and Mitch Brown.
The minutes of June 10, 2015 were read. Keizer moved to approve the minutes . Jensen seconded. All aye.
The Library Director's pay was approved last month from hourly to salary. Diana Jensen signed a letter from the Library Board to the city requesting the change.
Report on summer reading program: Rice will meet with the council next month to report on the summer reading program. 76 children attended the community heroes program featuring members of the fire department and police department. 40 children attended the Nature Center butterfly program. Some of those in attendance helped plant a butterfly garden with a variety of plants that attract butterflies. This is located east of the library. Stairs will be built to reach and care for the garden. Perhaps a picnic table sometime in the future. John Adams also brought his dog Savvy to visit.
108 children was the final total of those signed up for the reading program.
Computer shut off sign: Some patrons want to stay past closing time when they are working on a project or just want a little more time. It requires the staff to stay longer to accommodate them. Rice said they will post a sign announcing that computers will shut off 10 minutes prior to closing time. The board members agreed.
Employee updates: With Ron Walker's retirement as City Administrator, City employees have been moved to different positions. The police secretary, Jenna, has been assisting the library as part time employee. She will soon be the City utility clerk, so Sarah Place Riley has been hired as the police secretary starting July 20th. As soon as she has been trained in the police department, she will fill in at the library position. Sarah will be paid for hours worked at the library. All payroll deductions will come out of the police secretary salary.
Library Credit Card: Rice reported there was a problem with the former Chase credit card previously used being sent to former Library Director, Sue Sup in Lawton, NV. Both Sup and Rice worked with the credit card company to get the error corrected, but were unsuccessful, so finally Sup paid the bill and closed the credit card. The Arnolds Park library will reimburse Sup. The Arnolds Park library uses the City credit card. Rice will keep all correspondence on this card mix up on file in case further questions arise.
Bills for July were presented in the amount of $2,984.48. Rice explained that two software programs to download books, Wilbor and Neighbors, have been combined into something called Bridges. The payment to Over Drive Inc. is our yearly service fee for the download software. Several area libraries went together to sponsor guitarist Gary Barlow to come and perform. The payment to Rodeway Inn was Arnolds Park Library's contribution for his motel room. Rice explained the Century Link phone bill is high this month, but the new e-rate funding has not taken over yet, so eventually the bill will go down.
Following some discussion, Keizer moved to pay the July bills as presented. Jensen seconded. All aye.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, August 12th.
